The new Trek Checkpoint ALR 5 is a very exciting new gravel bike. It uses the awesome and versatile Trek Checkpoint ALR Frameset and adds a 2x10 Shimano GRX RX400 drivetrain. That means this bike has an 11-34t cassette out back and a subcompact 46/30 crankset. A wide gear range like that should allow the bike to go just about anywhere and add in the 700x42c tire clearance (650x47c) you can fit monster tires on the bike. To aid the massive tire clearance the Checkpoint uses sliding rear dropouts to control the length of the chainstay and help customize the feel from stability on loose gravel to snappy handling on paved roads. Finally, frame storage and function is superb. It has so many different options for water bottle bosses, bags, racks, and of course fenders. Overall a pretty compelling package for a really nice and fun gravel bike!
